As part of its unwavering commitment to uplifting and supporting the communities it serves, Standard Bank has stepped in to address the poor conditions at Tshilidzini Hospital in the Limpopo province by investing a total of R430 000.00 to renovate and refurbish the hospital’s maternity wards.
The official hand over of the new maternity wards was held on 12 April 2022 at the hospital premises in the presence of the Chief Director of Department of Health Vhembe district Mr. Robert Ndwamato Sirwali on behalf of MEC of Health Dr Phophi Ramathuba, Tshilidzini hospital CEO Ms. Marubini Agnes Ndwammbi, Ms. Ivy Strydom – Standard Bank Head Consumer Client Coverage Limpopo province, Mr. Andries Ndlovu – Head of Client Coverage, Limpopo North, Mr. Steven Mudzunga – Head of Client Coverage Limpopo South, Mr. John van Kan- Head Health sector. Brig General L Mathebula – Makhado Airforce Base, Standard Bank, who expressed their gratitude for Standard Bank’s support that will benefit healthcare workers and expectant mothers who provide and use the services of Tshilidzini.
Operated by the Limpopo Department of Health and situated in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, Tshilidzini Hospital is a district hospital for the Vhembe area. It is one of the oldest public health facilities in Limpopo and offers medical services to thousands of residents within the Vhembe district.
“The renovation of the maternity wards at Tshilidzini is a step in the right direction, as the facility makes moves towards improving the quality of healthcare it provides,” said Mr. Andries Ndlovu, Head of Client Coverage, Limpopo North, at Standard Bank.
Ndlovu explained that the scope of work carried out at Tshilidzini’s Maternity Ward A and B included the installation of a new kitchen unit, painting of the kitchen area and doctor’s call room, fixes to the bathrooms, patching of damaged areas, stripping, and sealing of floors. It also included the refurbishment of the reception desk and creation of two private rooms, which will provide sufficient privacy for mothers.
This refurbishment stands to benefit the women who use the facility each year, adding that it will go a long way to improving the working environment and staff morale as well as experiences for mothers who rely on the hospital’s services.

The investment in Tshilidzini to refurbish its maternity facilities is an example of our effort to ensure that services are in line with the needs of the communities which we serve,” Ndlovu said.
