Mustadafin Foundation first at the scene to help Strand residents with essential items after the Cape storms

On Monday 08 April 2024, the Mustadafin Foundation was first at the scene in the community of Strand, where many residents were left without a roof over their heads following the devastating storm that swept through the Western Cape. This relentless weather system brought some of the strongest winds that the Western Cape has seen in years. As a result, many homes were extensively damaged, leaving countless residents stranded and exposed to the merciless cold. To continue their disaster relief work within the affected communities, Mustadafin is calling on people and organisations to please donate food, blankets, clothing items, and building materials.

“In anticipation of the level 9 storm severity forecast, we already started monitoring the weather system on Sunday, and prepared survival packs,” shares Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, director at Mustadafin. “On Monday morning, we started getting calls to support residents in Strand who were left out in the cold from the havoc caused by Sunday’s wind and rain,” adds Johnstone-Cassiem. “We immediately dispatched a team to start distributing essential items to those affected.”

With limited resources, Mustadafin’s disaster relief efforts can only go so far and there are still many families in need of their support. Mustadafin urges the public to please donate any winter items that will help families through the cold winter months.

The items that are currently needed to continue their relief effort in Strand includes clothing, warm blankets, food items, hygiene packs and building materials especially roof sheeting. Donations can be made to Mustadafin Foundation, Standard Bank, branch code 025909, account no 072 778 377 or visit 154 Antelope Street to drop off items.
