Retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke has likened the way in which Esidimeni patients were treated by government to how the apartheid government treated anti-apartheid activist and black consciousness leader Steve Biko.
143 mentally ill patients died after the Gauteng Health Department terminated its contract with the Life Esidimeni group.

Rahlaga reports during his testimony, Doctor Mvuyiso Talatala admitted to being aware that the NGOs where the Life Esidimeni patents were being moved to where not adequate to house them.
Talatala also said that he is one of many other officials who warned the department against the moves.
