Winter can be a tough time for some kids going to school in remote rural areas where something as simple as a decent pair of shoes is a luxury.
This is why Liberty staff and friends have got together to collect over 17 000 pairs of shoes for learners like this to make their lives better on those cold mornings by not having to worry about basic necessities like covering their feet.
These shoes which have been collected will be handed out to 127 schools across the country, undoubtedly bringing happiness and making a difference to young lives.
“Our #DriveHope Squad continues to keep their promise and their drive to make a difference where it matters most with one small act of kindness at a time by collecting much needed footwear. Making a difference is not about changing the world in a day, but rather just simply recognising what needs to be done to help out,” says Nomaxabiso Matjila, Liberty CSI Lead.
“Education is a basic building block in the lives of young people, and while this may seem like a small gesture, it forms part of Liberty’s commitment to building up the leaders of tomorrow. A proper education offers young people the opportunity to realise their own financial freedom which is what we at Liberty believe in,” says Matjila.
The shoe drive is part of Liberty’s #DriveHope initiative which was launched in 2020 with the purpose of assisting those in need through what it calls random acts of kindness.
