Kevian Kenya donates beds to Kiambu for isolation wards.

Kevian Kenya has blessed Kiambu with 100 beds valued at Sh10million to boost the Covid-19 fight in the country.

A major boost has been made to Kiambu government in fighting against the coronavirus.Producer of Afia and Pick ‘N’ Peel juice brands, Kevian Kenya Limited donated the beds to this institution.

The beds will be fitted inside isolation wards and quarantine centres in the country.This gesture was well received, as there was already a shortage of beds in the quarantine wards as many people are being admitted.

An equal distribution of beds will be donated between the Kenya Medical Training College in Thika which is a joint partnership and another batch of 50 beds will be taken to Tigoni Hospital, a public health facility.

Managing Director of Kevian Kenya, Kimani Rugendo, mentioned it during the handover ceremony in Thika that the decision to donate the beds was inspired by the need for public-private goodwill to prepare for the unexpected, in case there is a surge of new infections.

“We are joining hands so that we are not caught unawares, encase of an urgent need for isolation and quarantine centres that need beds to host the patients,” said Mr Rugendo.

Dr Joseph Karanja, the Principal to Kenya Medical Training College emphasised on the need for more bed donations as he clearly stated that the Institution had the capacity to handle about 150 isolation cases.

“We laud Kevian Kenya for their generosity in the fight against Covid-19,” said Dr Karanja.

It was mentioned that the beds were made by Kevian Kenya subsidiary firm, Ramani Recyclers domiciled in Thika. Kiambu Governor James Nyoro also said that the country has already reserved a unit at the Tigoni level 4 Hospital for coronavirus patients.

“Luckily an extra hospital building is nearing completion in Tigoni. The facility has a capacity of 60 beds but we shall gradually revise this upward to 150 beds,” said Mr Nyoro.
