Donors around Zimbabwe have come together to help a grandmother in Harare who has been struggling to take care of vulnerable children in the Mt Hampden area. Having knowledge of this, several donors have made the necessary strides to make sure the children are catered for during the global crises.
The grandmother has been supporting these children through her own means for a number of years. However, due to the severe hit COVID- 19 has had on the economy, the grandmother has been unable to feed and take care of the children this year.
“Despite modernity and dilution of moral values due to globalisation, it is pleasing to see how people still come together to help.” said one of the Donors
Food donations were made by Innscor, Seedco, Afro-Soft, Seventh Day Adventist Borrowdale Brooke women, Mt Pleasant Heights Women and Comedian Socialite Mai Titi (Felistus Edward). These donors promised to ensure that these children have food on their table for the next coming months.
Upon hearing this, the government added these children as social welfare beneficiaries for grain and school fees through the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM).
While being interviewed, Gogo Nhiwatiwa said: “These children have nowhere to go but l cannot turn them away. The numbers keep on increasing and am now overwhelmed. In the beginning, l was only assisting a few but they kept on coming. I only want what’s best for these children, l want them to go to school and have a bright future,” explained Gogo.
