A group of women recently marched to the Midrand Police Station to deliver a memorandum of demands.
The Midrand community members rendered a memorandum of demands to continue their fight against gender based-violence (gbv). The organisers of the march noted that the drive was a call to the government to provide more gbv and femicide support centres for all the victims.
Furthermore, women have asked law enforcement officials to receive training so that they can better handle cases relating to gender-based violence, and for there to be an intensification of life skills related to the pandemic in the local school curriculum among other things.
“We want victims to be properly handled when they go to police stations, we do not want them to face their perpetrator, victims must be protected against all that and more,” said Johannesburg Speaker of Council, Nonceba Moloele.
“We need to identify disrespectful perpetrators as a society and isolate them. We cannot have this situation of burying women every day, particularly young women because if we are burying young women it means this country has no future,” Nonceba lamented.
Nonceba later confirmed that the Midrand Police Station accepted the memorandum and is in full support of the fight against violence.
