Pofadder Community Health Centre, Pofadder Clinic, Onseepkans Clinic and Pella Clinic in the Northern Cape, are receiving help from the local private sector, to deal with mass screenings in the area and to help keep healthcare professionals safe, whilstdealing with COVID-19 patients.
“Mass screening for COVID-19 commenced on Tuesday, 28 April with a total of 11 020 screenings completed within the district to date, Friday, 15th May 2020. The hand sanitisers, masks and thermometers donated by Konkoonsies Solar Power have been used to do these screenings,” Ms Dina Beukes, Health Director: Namakwa District Municipality
The personal protective equipment was delivered to the Department of Health’s District Office, so that it can be distributed to the various health centres and clinics where it is most needed. It is
confirmed that Pofadder Community Health Centre, Pofadder Clinic, Onseepkans Clinic and Pella Clinic see an average of 85 patients per day, which excludes inpatients.
This equipment includes 8000 Surgical Masks; Infrared non-contact thermometers; 373 units of 5L hand sanitisers; 5000 gauze swabs; and 100 rolls medical tape.
“The COVID-19 outbreak constitutes a public health emergency, which we will not be able to fight without our frontline healthcare professionals using the proper personal protection and equipment,” explained Tsholofelo Moote, Economic Development Practitioner at Konkoonsies Solar Power.
