Female-run Khayelitsha business set to reach new heights with EPWP support

Luspin Manufacturers is a textile business operating from Khayelitsha. The business has been operational since 2018 and often hosts students for the practical component of their degrees.

The business employs four staff: 12 trainees and 13 distributors, and manufactures a variety of garments including work/school uniforms, custom dresses or any other custom garment.

Like many other entrepreneurs who have participated in the programme, Hlengisa benefitted from various training including leadership, financial management and marketing that allows her to develop effective growth strategies. This will hopefully lead to the creation of many more jobs and training opportunities for residents of Khayelitsha and beyond.

‘Luspin Manufacturers exemplifies the spirit of entrepreneurship and the transformative power of government-sponsored education and training to support the ambitions of our communities. Through the Expanded Public Works Programme, we are proud to support businesses like Luspin that not only provide valuable training opportunities but also contribute to the local economy and create permanent jobs. Pinkie’s dedication to her craft and her community is an inspiration, and we are confident that her leadership and newly acquired skills will lead to even greater success and job creation in the future,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.

About the Programme

The EPWP Entrepreneurship Trainee Programme, now in its third year, equips entrepreneurs with essential skills to meet their goals through comprehensive training and development modules provided by the University of the Western Cape. These modules cover financial management, marketing, leadership and more, coupled with personalised coaching and mentorship.

The impact of the programme over the past two years has been profound, fostering job creation and revenue growth among participating enterprises.
