The Albany Street Smart Squad was the third event in Albany’s ongoing consumer wellness drive.
This year, Albany has hosted numerous workshops and initiatives, aimed at helping South Africans improve their health and wellness – covering everything from eating habits and nutrition to stress management and exercise.
This latest chapter put women empowerment and safety at the forefront of the campaign. Hosted by popular Brand Ambassador DJ Zinhle, the Albany Street Smart Squad aimed to equip Albany consumers with practical self defence tools and knowledge.
Given the alarming statistics on violence against women, it became important to take the overall wellness drive a step further, to include safety through means of empowerment and education.
The event took place in DJ Zinhle’s home province of KZN, at the gorgeous Camp Orchards Estate. While the topic of the day was a serious one, it was important for the brand to create a warm, positive environment so that attendees could look forward to an uplifting occasion.
Selected Facebook competition winners, DJ Zinhle, media and the Albany family, got hands on in eye-opening classes that provided practical advice on self defence.
This included awareness and avoidance tips, basic strikes, targets and vital points, as well as how to effectively get away safely from dangerous situations. “What an incredibly well organized event! Albany is clearly a brand that cares for its consumers, and did a magnificent job in setting up and running the workshop, with every little detail flawlessly executed.
We do workshops on a regular basis, and this is one of the best we’ve ever been to.” – Elite Defence Academy Guests were then treated to a hearty lunch and also had the chance to socialise with the other guests and their host.
When asked about the importance of this type of initiative, DJ Zinhle replied: “It’s extremely important. Knowledge is power and it is great to see Albany give women the power they need to take care of themselves.
