China donates medical supplies to Africa.

China has made a donation of medical supplies to 12 African countries to help in curbing the coronavirus pandemic. The latest batch of medical supplies arrived in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa recently.

The donation was made after realising the rapid increase of COVID-19 across different parts of the African continent. The donation was also made at a ceremony in the presence of high-level officials, representatives of the African Union (AU) and the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

During the occasion, Chinese Ambassador Tan Jian told Ethiopia that the COVID-19 outbreak had dragged the whole human race into a fierce war on a global scale. He further explained that the virus is new and highly infectious. The attack was sudden and unprecedented.

The medical supplies donated included facial masks, disposable protective clothing, medical protective goggles, forehead thermometers, gloves and shoe covers for medical use among other equipments.

“A friend in need is a friend indeed. The China-Africa cooperation in fighting COVID-19 is a telling testament to our friendship,” the ambassador affirmed.

Tan stressed that the China had received heart-warming help and support from Africa at the most trying stage of China’s fight against the outbreak. He also made aware that the profound friendship will always be remembered and cherished by the Chinese people.

The donation of these medical supplies will be transferred to 12 other African countries as Ethiopia had already received medical supplies from China recently. China promised to donate more to the East African country noting that another batch of China-aided medical supplies had been shipped to Ghana.
