Four new members join WEEE Forum in tackling global e-waste challenge

Cobat RAEE, Recyclia, Karo Sambhav, and EPRON recently joined the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Forum. Founded in April 2002, the forum has members from across Europe, North America and Australia and focuses on helping not-for-profit producer responsibility organizations in their pursuit to continuously improve their e-waste management strategies and techniques.

Since 2017, Karo Sambhav,India has collected over 6,000 tonnes of WEEE. India is the fourth-largest producer of e-waste globally. Cobat RAEE,Italy collected over 16,000 tonnes of WEEE in 2018,Recyclia collected over 32,000 tonnes of e-waste in the same year.
EPRON began operations in May 2019 and is the first producer responsibility organization for electronic waste in Nigeria. They are pioneers in the development of responsible e-waste treatment and extended producer responsibility in Africa.

This expansion of the WEEE Forum reflects the recognized problem that e-waste has become in all parts of the world. The desire of administrations and businesses across the planet to address the issue and provide a clean and safe route for e-waste collection and recycling is manifested in new legislation and new organizations that directly target e-waste.

Pascal Leroy, Director General of the WEEE Forum, says, “There is an increasing global interest in e-waste and ensuring that e-waste is dealt with correctly by competent and qualified organizations.” He explains that the WEEE Forum will continue to welcome new members because the new laws support the e-waste’s objectives and recognizes members who have experience in delivering effective e-waste management in a challenging legislative and operating environment.
