31year old Inter Milan soccer player Kwadwo Asamoah has extended his support to Ghana to fight against the coronavirus by making a cash donation of $20,000.
The donation was made to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. It is Ghana’s second largest city and also the place where the soccer star started his carrier with local side Asokwa Deportivo.
The West African nation has about 640 COVID-19 cases with eight deaths recorded. The fight against the virus is intensifying considering the continuous rise of cases. However, just like many countries, Ghana is also on a partial lockdown hoping to flatten the COVID-19 curve.
The kind financial gesture was received by the CEO of the hospital, Prof. Oheneba Owusu Danso. The soccer player was therefore represented by his father, Emmanuel Kwasi Asamoah as he was in Italy where he plays professionally.
The donation was therefore made on behalf of the player who last played for the Black Stars at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt. Through it all, he has never forgotten his home town thus making the donation at such a crucial time.
Like his fellow professional footballers in England, Italy, and Spain, Asamoah wants to help his country in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
“In March, Asamoah spoke to Citi Sports and asked Ghanaians to respect all the health and safety protocols given by the government and health officials. In addition, he also detailed how he was coping with the spread of the disease in Italy which has led to a suspension of the Italian Serie A,” said a reporter.
