Youth Dance Platform Opens Applications

Applications are now open for the 2026 JOMBA! Youth Open Horizons platform, offering young dancers a space to perform, connect and develop their creative skills.

The Youth Open Horizons platform forms part of the 28th JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Experience, taking place from 24 August to 6 September in Durban. The youth showcase will be held at the Stable Theatre on Sunday, 30 August at 14:00.

Designed as a non-competitive platform, the initiative brings together dancers under the age of 16 from a wide range of styles, including hip hop, pantsula, Zulu traditional dance, ballet and contemporary dance.

The programme focuses on creating an inclusive environment where young performers can share their work, learn from one another and build confidence through live performance.

Organisers say the platform plays an important role in developing future talent within the dance sector, while also encouraging creativity and cultural expression.

A total of 12 dance groups will be selected to participate in the showcase.

Applications are open until 29 June 2026.

The JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Experience is hosted by the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Creative Arts and continues to provide a platform for both established and emerging performers.
