World Humanitarian Action Day

Today is ‘World Humanitarian Action Day’ so it’s a great excuse to explore Humanitarianism and boil it down to find its relevance for our every day lives.

The primary objective of humanitarian action is to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity, without regard for race, ethnicity, religion or political affiliation. It should be guided by the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence. Undertaken for the benefit of vulnerable people, humanitarian action may also facilitate the return to normal lives and through preparedness and risk reduction may seek to lessen the destructive impact of disasters and complex emergencies.
