Tshithuthuni Primary and Let’s Play Empower Learners with Heritage Day Fun Run

Tshithuthuni Primary School hosted a 5KM  Fun Run as part of Heritage Day celebrations, building on last year’s successful handover of the multi-purpose sports field. This event is a continuation of the Let’s Play initiative, designed to empower rural learners through sports and foster Centres of Sporting Excellence.
In partnership with the Premier League and British Council, the event showcased the implementation of knowledge and skills gained by teachers who underwent specialised training in sports project planning and management. Tshithuthuni Primary was one of four Let’s Play Centres of Sporting Excellence to undergo this unique training, aimed at empowering teachers to organise and manage sports programs, create holiday activities, and establish sustainable sports hubs in rural communities.
This Fun Run marked the teachers’ first assignment post-training and highlighted the ongoing commitment to enhancing access to sports for rural learners. Similar events were held at three other schools across South Africa – Tsholomnqa High, Boikhutsho Primary, and Nomfihlela Primary. Let’s Play has impacted over 1.6 million learners across South Africa, providing opportunities for young people to participate in sports activities, enhancing physical education, and fostering teamwork.
