Jaguar SA partners #GiveHerACrown in lead up to 16 Days of Activism

Ahead of 16 Days of Activism, Jaguar South Africa has joined #GiveHerACrown to raise awareness and funds towards the fight against gender-based violence. Launched on Women’s Day this year, #GiveHerACrown is a female empowerment platform which uses the power of arts and storytelling.

“Jaguar and #GiveHerACrown share an ethos of empowering women and celebrating their fearless spirits and creativity. Creative expression can be used to communicate our individual and collective values, and this campaign fosters creativity in a very positive way. The arts are a powerful tool to express our inner selves to the world, and active engagements give voice to new ideas,” said Irene Kakooza, Jaguar’s Experiential Manager.”

The campaign kicked off with an online storytelling series where South African survivors, activists, and influencers were celebrated. The women were honoured with a digital crown for their contribution to the upliftment of women in society.
“In a time when the world, and South Africa, desperately needs to focus on empowering, recognising and protecting women, the #GiveHerACrown platform is an ideal and much-needed activism platform which Jaguar is delighted to support,” said Kakooza.

The campaign will finish with a pop-up exhibition at the Jaguar Experience Centre during SA’s 16 Days of Activism, 25 November to 10 December 2020. The exhibition will showcase a bespoke crown collection, created by 16 South African artists, each in their choice of material, from wood to steel, fabric to lace and more. The 2020 Crown Collection will be the first in a series of art-inspired collections that aim to raise funds for the fight against gender-based violence.

“Our biggest societal issues require not only the most creative minds but powerful collaborations. This is why we are honoured to be joining forces with an innovative and purpose-led brand such as Jaguar,” said Nika Smit, co-founder and MD of The Change Collective Africa, which developed the #GiveHerACrown platform.
