DJ Black Coffee, a well-known South African musician has come up with several initiatives to help and support the less fortunate needing help in all parts of South Africa. He has raised funds in a short period of time for the COVID-19 relief fund.
The musician has lent out his name and brand to several initiatives with the aim of helping South Africa’s healthcare workers, small businesses and people in need with the basic needs like food, shelter and water amid coronavirus.
Through what Black Coffee called the government’s solidarity fund, he managed to raise more than R90, 000 last month to help the government through a live concert stream online. The DJ took to twitter that music had the power to unite thus the concert attracted donations from around the world to help South Africans affected by the virus.
The musician then launched a crowd funding page to help Corona Care SA with the same aim to help South Africans with water and food. He managed to raise more than R5000 within 24hrs for this initiative.
“For this week, I’ve created a @gofundme page to help fundraise towards Corona Care who is assisting in keeping a widespread of smaller organisations running that aid in bringing basic necessities like water and food to those in true need in SA. By keeping these organisations running, we keep our country strong!” said Black Coffee.
Coffee has told the media that he is hosting a live stream to raise funds for SAveabusiness. This initatiative hopes to save small businesses which have been economically paralysed due to the pandemic.
“For this Saturday’s stream, I’ve teamed up with SAveabusiness who is dedicated to granting relief to various small South African businesses in need. Let’s do our part and keep each other afloat where we can — donations are now being accepted,” Black Coffee wrote.
The donations made through the concert will go to the World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response fund, equipping health care workers with protective equipment and charities providing food, shelter and other resources to those in need. Black Coffee hopes to collect a whooping R900, 000 for organisations in need.
“Your immense support helped us raise over 90,000 ZAR last week towards Solidarity Fund. Let’s aim to double it.” the DJ said , before announcing that he would be starting up another fundraising page, this time for Corona Care SA.
