Vital school supplies for 400+ JTG learners

In collaboration with the Department of Education, the second phase of a school support programme has been successfully completed. This initiative, funded by Kathu Solar Park, provided essential school supplies, including shoes and backpacks, to over 400 young learners across 10 schools within the JTG District Municipality. School principals have reported that the programme has equipped learners across the district with the necessary resources for the current school year.

Initiated in early 2024 by Kathu Solar Park with added support from stakeholders like the Sishen Iron Ore Company-Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT), this initiative has met the immediate material needs of learners in support of education in the region.

The selection of the schools was conducted in partnership with the regional Department of Education and was based on the necessity to identify and assist 40 of each schools’ learners in most need of assistance.

Mr Senatla Bodike, Principal of Baithaopi Primary School, shared the impact of the initiative, “We are grateful that these efforts addressed the immediate needs like providing school supplies, while also aligning with broader goals of reducing educational inequality and promoting socio-economic mobility.”
