United Way South Africa in partnership with Cummins South Africa hosted a Career Fair to provide knowledge about different career paths to 400 Grade 9 learners in Ingqayizivele and Ivory Park Secondary Schools in Tembisa, Johannesburg.
The Fair show-cased career opportunities in Law, Finance and Accounting, Health, Logistics, Marketing and Sales, Business Management and more. Leaner where also taught how to choose the correct subjects for the career paths they are interested in.
The goal of the program is to reduce barriers to career success after high school such as limited knowledge, resources and support which are faced by youth in low-income communities and to also increase number of young people who access higher education especially in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
āOur goal is to empower the learners with the necessary knowledge and resources to ensure that they are on the right path to obtain family-sustaining incomeā says Lynda Bleazard Executive Director at United Way South Africa.
