Sibaya Casino sponsors 100 learners to get active and discover their physical potential

One hundred learners from a KwaZulu-Natal school participated in the Fordyce Fusion Shaka’s Kraal Get Active for Life Challenge powered by Sun International’s Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom to promote physical activity and boost confidence.

The Shaka’s Kraal Get Active for Life Challenge saw learners from Shaka’s Kraal Primary receive weekly training sessions from the Fordyce Fusion team, founded by legendary Comrades Marathon winner Bruce Fordyce to get people active and discover their true physical potential.  The cost of the Challenge was sponsored by Sibaya Casino.

“The wellness initiative was structured to inspire young people to get active and enjoy the benefits of improved learning, increased creativity, sharpened memory, improved self-esteem and reduced anxiety. Through physical activity, we developed goal-setting, planning and execution skills,” said Gill Sieling, Fordyce Fusion KwaZulu-Natal organiser.

The Challenge, which began on July 11, saw participants taken through an array of running, walking, strength and conditioning activities, overseen by their school coaches and the Fordyce Fusion team.

The Challenge concluded on August 2 with a prize-giving ceremony where the achievements of the top participants were recognised and branded sling bags with water bottles were distributed.

“Sun International has a stated socio-economic development goal of uplifting education in South Africa, and it was inspiring to see how these learners, who don’t usually have access to sports, responded so positively to the opportunity,” said Virath Gobrie; Sibaya’s General Manager.

The Top 10 fastest runners were also selected to receive additional coaching from Fordyce Fusion to nurture their talent.
