European countries, France and Netherlands are the latest countries planning on re -opening schools after a very long break caused by the coronavirus pandemic. With a minimum number of 15 students per class, French primary school is most likely to open on 11 May.
The governments have stated that these schools will only be allowed to be re-opened if they meet strict health conditions. Older children are therefore expected to return to school a week later on 18 May. Dutch schools are also returning to school on a ‘part-time’ from 11 May.
Some German schools have opened as some children are preparing for exams. This again has led to the re-opening of secondary schools on 18 May having most of the school system operational again. In contrast, the UK government says there is no date lined up for the end of school closures in Britain.
Blanquer in a statement said that back to school arrangements would be soon discussed with local authorities, teachers unions, parent groups and advisory bodies. He also mentioned that, some schools were open giving an example of day care facilities for the children of key workers such as nurses and police officers.
‘It will be absolutely necessary to work with small groups,’ Blanquer said, saying the maximum class size would be around 15.
