Finally, a history book that celebrates the Khoisan

Bastaards or Humans – the unspoken heritage of coloured people (Vol 1) is a book written by author Dr Ruben Richards which attempts to one undo centuries of indoctrination, misinformation, stereotyping and abuse about the identity and heritage of a people with an ancestry linked to the oldest form of human civilisation. Namely, the Khoi/Khoe and San (commonly referred to as Khoisan)

400 copies of the book were handed to pupils at Heathfield High School.

Richards spoke to CapeTalk’s John Maytham about the book and why it will be made available to public schools in the Western Cape.

I didn’t set out to write a history book, the book was my attempt to answer three simple questions, who am I, where do I come from and where am I going?

Dr Ruben Richards, Author
