Khulisa Social Solutions, a Non-Profit Company specialising in social justice, will release the results of evidence-based research on Persons with Albinism – lived experiences, the challenges and barriers they face daily in accessing justice.
The research will be released at the Colloquium on Access to Justice for Persons with Albinism organised by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development in partnership with Khulisa Social Solution on the 26 – 27 November 2019 in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.
Khulisa Social Solutions Managing Director Lesley Ann Van Selm says “The rationale for the research is to assist relevant stakeholders (Government and civil society) to develop and implement appropriate, informed, inclusive, and just responses for Persons with Albinism, to enable them to build sustainable, resilient futures and realise their human rights.
The research adopted a qualitative, interpretative paradigm with an aim to capture the ‘lived experiences’ of Persons with Albinism. It straddles the fields of victimology (access to justice, restorative justice) and community development (participation, inclusivity, community dialogues, stakeholder engagement, and partnerships).
The first phase of the research involves the analysis of preliminary data from documentary evidence, policy documents and scholarly literature, as well as primary data from interviews, focus groups and dialogues with Persons with Albinism and their stakeholders.
The second phase will be the monitoring and evaluation phase once the National Action Plan for Persons with Albinism is launched and interventions, programmes, strategies for Persons with Albinism implemented in partnership with Khulisa.
