City training programme helps small business expand

This week, Alderman Grant Twigg, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management visited Bonolo Holdings, a Delft-based business to see the progress it has made since participation in the programme.

 Elton Pienaar, the owner of the business aims to upskill and train clients in the fields of security and radio control – unfortunately a growing need in South Africa.  

 Pienaar started his business without any academic background. However, during his time in the programme, he has benefitted from training modules, including personal leadership that have allowed him to fully embrace the leadership role in his family business, boosted his self-esteem and ignited the desire to study further.

 Since participation in the programme, Pienaar has gone on to complete his matric, and expanded the business to include a secondary training centre in Kimberley. 

 ‘The City’s EPWP programmes are not only aimed at creating jobs, but also strengthening and growing businesses, which is evident by Bonolo Holdings’ massive development through the Entrepreneurship Trainee Programme.

 ‘We will continue to show our support for small businesses and work with them as they continue to grow and serve our growing economy,’ said Alderman Twigg.
