Career Coach’s book provides career guidance to SA Youth

With a 10 year experience in the creative industry, Midrand-based author, Evelyn Motsatsing has shared advice she considers to be crucial in helping the youth of South Africa achieve their goals and dreams.

Motsatsing who is also a career coach, guides young people through their subject choice process in her latest written offering, Grade 9 career exploration: Getting ready for Grade 10 subjects choice.

The latest book written by the author is divided into three sections, focuses on how learners can get to know themselves, their future careers and their education. The book tackled topics such as what the Grade 9 year is about and choosing Grade 10 subjects as well as why people work among other topics.

In her youth, Motsatsing said that she herself had challenges in making a career choice. “Thirty-one years after completing my matric I still see kids having the same challenge. I want to help reduce the misery of confusion and uncertainty in career decisions.”

The writer also explained that learners could make the most out of the book by doing the activities in it, which could help them get to know themselves better.

“By doing the activities, learners get to discover their interests, abilities and preferences. This is important in knowing what career direction you want to take.” The book is specifically aimed at Grade 9 learners – adults who want to go through a similar process self-rediscovery could do so with her other book.

While concluding, Motsatsing explained that due to bad choices in life, many people are not happy with their carriers. “There are indeed a lot of older people not happy in their careers. I’ve seen this in the 26 years I’ve spent in workplaces. Therefore, I have another book aimed at the older kids and adults, called Work that you love.”
