Cape Town sisters launch education platform that encourages entrepreneurship

The Creative Crafting Club is a one-of-a-kind concept, bridging the gap between entrepreneurship for stay-at-home parents and education for tots to tweens through an innovative online subscription site. The platform offers creative crafting lesson plans, teaching resources and business advice for parents, teachers and entrepreneurs who would like to kick-start creative crafting clubs for kids in their community.

The lesson plans are based on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) and have been endorsed by occupational therapists, engineers, architects and artists to ensure the crafting topics are contemporary, child-friendly and of international standard. The lessons are designed for kids who are aged between 2 – 12 years. The lesson plans can also be used to complement school curriculums, extramural activities or simply to run a creative at-home business.

The online subscription site was founded by two South African sisters Christelle who is an Architect, and Stefanie who is an Engineer by profession. They previously came up with the franchise concept called Canvas Club. Canvas Club expanded to more than 50 locations across three countries in two years, so the sisters saw the need to develop a worldwide business model that not only encouraged creativity in kids but entrepreneurship for parents too.

Research shows that mothers are 79% less likely to be hired and earn 14 to 18% less than non-mothers. Stay-at-home moms are also half as likely to get a job interview. The “motherhood penalty” suggests some businesses are concerned about stay-at-home parents prioritizing family overwork.“Creative Crafting Club gave me the tools to pursue my dream of teaching children, despite not being a schoolteacher,” said Lili Probart, Club Member

“One of the biggest struggles we see Moms facing, is finding a flexible way to generate extra income. We’ve seen the sense of community and transformation that the creative crafting club is creating for these women” said the two sisters.
