More than 40 long-haul trucks and heavy-duty rescue vehicles, escorted by dozens of motorcycles rolled into Killarney International Raceway this past Sunday, filled with soft toys to be donated to the Cancer Association of South Africa’s campaign for toys for children with cancer.
Since 1931, CANSA has been offering a unique, integrated service to the public and to all people affected by cancer. Together with private-public organizations and initiatives, the association is on a mission to bring hope to those who have been diagnosed with cancer. Its mission is to be the preferred non-profit leader that enables research with regards to lowering cancer risk, educating the public regarding symptoms, screening and risk reduction, and providing care and support to all people affected by cancer
Level 1 health and safety protocols were strictly enforced, as were social distancing and the wearing of face masks – but no mask could hide the smiles on the faces of the truckers and their children, and the Cansa volunteers, as they filled a one-ton bakkie to overflowing with soft toys which will go to brighten hospital wards and surgeries countrywide where children with cancer are treated. The toys will go to brighten hospital wards and surgeries countrywide.
