Soshanguve entrepreneur launches “a smartphone for the people”

CEO of Lemok Group, Lebogang Mokubela from Soshanguve has released the first-ever South African smartphone consequently capturing the attention of many on social media. After completing Matric in 2009, he established an events business but says he has always had an over-imaginative mind.

Between fatherhood and managing his businesses, Mokubela was looking to find a solution to an existing problem in an open market after realizing that the ratio of multinational brands versus local brands operating in SA was not balanced. “My epiphany came when I realized how many multinational smartphone brands are operational in SA as compared to local brands. This was a problem for me. Yes, multinationals create employment but hurt the economy by taking cash outside the country,” said Mokubela

The award-winning Entrepreneur seeks to create employment opportunities by launching a manufacturing factory in Soshanguve, North of Pretoria, by 2030. Mokubela is planning on creating five more models for the brand and exporting the brand to bigger markets like Nigeria.

LIBRA smartphone offers a 128GB storage space, 4GB RAM, 10MP rear and 8MP front cameras and a dual-sim functionality. The name of the smartphone resonated with the Entrepreneur because of the zodiac sign which is marked by natural leadership, charm and balance. The smartphone is currently available online for R2,999 and was manufactured outside of the country.
