E4E Relief, a subsidiary of the Foundation For The Carolinas, has announced the launch of a $50 million fund for the families of healthcare workers and volunteers who have lost their lives to COVID-19.
Established with commitments of $25 million each from the New York Life Foundation and Cigna Foundation, the Brave of Heart Fund will provide grants of $15,000 to surviving families in support of immediate medical expenses and health and wellness services. Eligible families also will be able to apply for an additional $60,000 in financial assistance to aid in their recovery.
The foundations involved in the effort hope to raise more than $100 million for the fund through individual and corporate donations. To that end, the New York Life Foundation has committed up to an additional $25 million in dollar-for-dollar matching funds.
“When tragedy strikes, large or small, people want to help. The Brave of Heart Fund is an overwhelming example of this, with New York Life and Cigna rising to the occasion to support fallen healthcare workers,” said E4E Relief CEO Holly Welch Stubbing. “In addition to this vital effort, E4E Relief provides employers of all sizes the ability to support employees impacted by the pandemic and other catastrophic disasters.”
