Bokomo recently launched a new product called Champion Sorghum together with a new processingmilling plant in Botswana.The unveiling was attended by the vice president of Botswana . The launch was attended by Mr SlumberTsogwane, Assistant minister of Agriculture development and other dignitaries in the law enforcement and agricultural sectors.
The plant has been part of the Bokomo’s plan to expand its production and increase job creation within Botswana. At the launch. Mr. Wener the C.E.O of Bokomo, stated that in line with Bokomo’s ambition of
being leaders in the FMCG manufacturing and distribution in Botswana , the business
would now further this action through expansion.
Bokomo Botswana manufactures maize, wheat, sugar and sorghum and distributes up to 650 product lines of pioneer Foods such as beverage, breakfast cereals, condiments and safari Dried fruits and nuts to mention the least.
“Bokomo is very aware of the responsibilities towards the achievement of the national objectives of growth in Botswana. Within the development of the local labour market we have created up to 800 jobs ,this is equivalent to 300% increase in job creation. We have also localised expats from 17 to 3 and have set programs to up-skill their workers , all millers are on certification courses at then SA Chamber of milling “ said Wener.
Bokomo also offers their workers compensation wages that are double the minimum wage prescribed by
the government . Wener further mentioned that the expansion of mills will also assist them in
continuing their support for the local SME development initiatives.
“We have partnered up with ABSA FNB and Stanbic Bank to help SME’s in the agriculture sector to develop and grow.” Bokomo has also contributed significantly towards sponsoring local talent such as Ross Brach
and Vincent Crosbie in Dakar.
“We are also very mindful of our social responsibility towards the communities within which we operate and draw a labour force. We contribute in sustainable ways towards the Lady Khama Charitable Trust, Adopt-a-person, Stepping Stones ,and Journey of hope (Pink Ladies)-Cancer Awareness throughout Botswana.
The vice -president, Slumber Tsogwane, in his closing speech commended Bokomo Botswana for being an avid contributor in Botswana and for being the participant of the Southern African development Community’ Industrialisation Strategy and Road –Map.
‘I would like to challenge Bokomo and other local industries to fully participate in the SADC
value chain and ther potential growth benefits presented today.” concluded Tsogwane.
