The Reach For A Dream Foundation has launched a new Dream Room at Steve Biko Academic Hospital in partnership with Medtronic, bringing the total number of Dream Rooms across South Africa to 58.
The Dream Room provides a supportive space for children awaiting treatment, offering a break from the clinical environment through interactive games, books, toys and virtual reality experiences. The initiative aims to create an environment where young patients can relax, play and engage socially while preparing for medical care.
Designed to support emotional wellbeing, each Dream Room is facilitated by psychology graduates trained in Early Childhood Development (ECD). These facilitators guide children through structured activities that promote resilience, creativity and developmental progress during their hospital visits.
Chloe Katompa, Head of Operations at Reach For A Dream, said the partnership with Medtronic has helped transform the clinic environment into a space that promotes comfort and positivity for children receiving treatment.
Nazley Bayat, HR Manager at Medtronic, said the collaboration reflects the organisation’s commitment to improving quality of life and supporting young patients during challenging circumstances.
Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko welcomed the initiative, noting the positive impact Reach For A Dream continues to make in hospitals across the province and country.
Reach For A Dream said the expansion of Dream Rooms forms part of its ongoing work to create supportive environments that help children and families navigate medical treatment with dignity and hope.
