Disruptive Discussions Spotlight Future of Mining

As mining leaders and government officials gather in Cape Town for Africa’s Mining Indaba, Ivanhoe Mines is positioning itself at the forefront of conversations shaping the future of the global mining industry.

On Wednesday, 11 February, Ivanhoe Mines’ Executive Chair and Co-Founder, Robert Friedland, will address delegates during the conference’s “Disruptive Discussions” segment, taking place from 09h00 to 10h00. The session is expected to provide a robust platform for knowledge-sharing, with Friedland unpacking the company’s insights, innovations and long-term vision for responsible mining.

Mining Indaba has long served as a key forum for dialogue between industry, policymakers and investors, and Ivanhoe Mines’ participation reflects its intent to actively contribute to discussions around energy transition, sustainability and the evolving role of mining in a low-carbon global economy.

Central to Ivanhoe Mines’ strategy is its commitment to building a low-carbon future, with clean energy increasingly powering its multinational operations. The company’s approach aligns with growing global demand for responsibly produced minerals critical to electrification, renewable energy systems and decarbonisation efforts.

Ivanhoe Mines’ operations are underpinned by three core values — Ingenuity, Tenacity and Compassion — which guide its approach to development, partnerships and long-term value creation. These principles support a portfolio of tier-one assets spanning copper, zinc, nickel, platinum and other critical green metals, positioning the company as a key player in supplying the materials needed for the global energy transition.

As Mining Indaba continues to explore pathways for sustainable growth across Africa’s mining sector, Ivanhoe Mines’ presence underscores the importance of innovation-driven leadership and collaboration in shaping a resilient and inclusive future for mining on the continent.
