UP sends out nearly 300 newly qualified doctors to make a transformative impact in healthcare and the lives of communities

Making an impact within the South African health system, characterised by systemic challenges such as staff shortages, disparities in skill sets between rural and urban areas, and widespread inefficiencies leading to suboptimal care levels and patient management issues, is both a calling and a passionate endeavour to change people’s lives.

This mindset and attitude was exemplified by nearly 300 students from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria (UP) who recently pledged their commitment during a joint Declaration Ceremony for the School of Medicine held at the Aula on the Hatfield Campus.

“You are not just becoming doctors; you are becoming guardians of health, advocates for those in need, and beacons of hope for those facing the darkness of illness,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Tiaan de Jager, looking at the newly qualified medical doctors accompanied by a crowd of proud
parents, guardians, friends and members of the academic fraternity.
