Local Grade 7 learners visit Cape Town

Forty learners from Loeriesfontein Primary School visited Cape Town, as part of a school educational tour aimed at exposing and helping the learners gain an alternate perspective, while simultaneously expanding their knowledge.

During the five-day tour, which was funded by the Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms, the grade 7 learners visited Table Mountain, the very popular aquarium at the V&A Waterfront, and even ventured on a harbour cruise to enjoy the magnificent Atlantic Ocean.

“These kinds of trips assist youth to gain real-world experiences that cannot be taught in a classroom, opening their minds to different cultures and strengthening their knowledge of the world around them. It is for these reasons, that we decided to support the tour. We trust that it will go some way in motivating learners to work harder and set goals for their future,” said Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development Manager for Khobab Wind Farm.

The tour provided a great opportunity for learners to create memories that will last a lifetime as well as to bring subjects to life, boost their self-confidence, motivate them, and encourage good behaviour.

“For every grade 7 learner at Loeriesfontein Primary School or any rural school, this is an invaluable experience because it gives learners who are heading to high school in other towns, or who will be moving to the city after matric, a chance to broaden their horizon. As a result of this tour, the learners were able to see a whole world of possibilities,” concluded Joline Klaaste, Loeriesfontein Primary School Principal.

This support is one of many educational programmes and initiatives that the local wind farm supports in Loeriesfontein. The comprehensive approach extends all the way through to tertiary education, with the bursary programme for local Loeriesfontein students.
