On International Mandela Day, celebrated across the globe on 18 July, Carnival City stepped up to the plate and supported Tholakele Centre of Hope with blankets and sanitary items.
On Mandela Day, South Africans are encouraged to spend 67 minutes of their time in service to others in need, in appreciation of the 67 years that Mandela spent fighting for justice, equality and human rights for all.
Bernard Nxumalo (Finance Operational Manager), Tshepo Kompi (HR Consultant), Annemie Turk (General Manager), Kholeka Mthembu (Tholakele Centre Manager), Thuso Masilo (Fidelity Contract Manager), Pertunia Nkosi (Afrisun Office Manager), Jacob Mkhwanazi (Porter) and Mduduzi Madonsela (SED Officer) stand next to some of the items donated to Tholakele.
More than eight staff members were involved with providing support in terms of more than 50 blankets donated by Carnival City employees themselves. Both the General and Finance Manager conducted a tour around the facility to determine what future support can be provided.
The orphanage is in Brakpan, and cares for displaced children who come from dire circumstances and covers the communities of Tsakane, Geluskdal, Duduza, and Kwathema
âWe are thrilled to once again support the centre and that we could provide blankets and sanitary items for the 30 children at Tholakele and will be doing all we can to continue to help in future,â says Annemie Turk, Carnival Cityâs General Manager.
Tholakele Centre of Hope, Kholeka Mthembu, says the centre is grateful for the donations. âBlankets and sanitation are one of the biggest needs of the centre. Not only have you put a smile on each childâs face, but you have assisted our childrenâs home by bridging the gap to help the most vulnerable of our community.
âThis truly is an eternal investment.â
