Shopping centre puts the heart into the holidays this festive season

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and Africa’s most iconic shopping centre has announced its festive season campaign. Sandton City will be hosting an array of immersive experiences, all underpinned by one objective, the need to pay it forward and put the heart into the holidays in these challenging times.

Adjacent to its immersive Toyland experience, the centre will be unveiling a Disney-inspired Christmas-tree that will give shoppers an opportunity to support the Smile Foundation, a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life of children with facial conditions.

At a towering ten-metres high, and adorned with 700 Disney plush toys, the tree will serve as an invitation to pledge R 50 towards this organization 9 – 24 December. After the end of the festive season, all of the toys will be donated to children that have undergone through corrective facial reconstructive surgery and treatments because every child deserves to smile. The cash pledges will go towards continuing this organisation’s life changing work.

In a display of support for local artists that have been prevented from performing during lockdown, live acts by The Cirk acrobatic artists will take place daily at 12pm and 4pm from 9 – 24 December and by Ballet dancers daily at 2pm and 6pm from 16 – 24 December. These complimentary performances are set to enthrall passers-by or those who’d like to pause (in a social distanced way) and enjoy these superb acts.

Knowing that our four-legged friends need support all year round, and even more so over the holidays, the centre’s two gift-wrapping stations will be dedicated to supporting the Sandton Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). These stations, open from 9 – 24 December will enable shoppers to have their purchases beautifully wrapped in a bespoke wrapping paper, and to donate to the SPCA in lieu of this service. At the same time, this will help to ensure that nobody gets a sneak peek at what’s inside the shopping parcels before the big day.

“From our immersive Toyland installation to captivating live performances, exquisite dĂ©cor, extended trading hours, wrapping services and more, there is no better place to enjoy the splendour of the festive season this year” says Preston Gaddy, General Manager of Sandton City. “We are thrilled that we can contribute to different organisations doing such incredible work over this time,” he added.

To ensure the safety of shoppers, staff and tenants, all Covid-19 related protocols and safety precautions will be adhered to at all times.
