Super Star Swim School in collaboration with Cool (kidsâ) Cabs and Magical Moments are pledging to teach 45 children and five adults from the Alexandra township to swim by December. The project aims to create greater awareness around water safety and to give the gift of this essential life skill that will have a lasting impression on these childrenâs lives.
With the lessons already underway, children are transported from the township by the multi-award-winning, premium service, Cool (kidsâ) Cabs. Lessons take place at the home of Magical Moments in Sandhurst, where the entire property has been created into a sensory world for these children.
Since 2011 Super Star Swim School have successfully been teaching toddlers and children to swim with the help of their ten qualified teachers.
âLearning to swim is a luxury for many in this country, however with the statistics of drowning and water accidents so high it is becoming a necessary life skill that should be made available to all. We want to help make that a reality. We have taught hundreds of children over the years and we want to give back to those who have not had the opportunity to learn. Water safety is of great importance and we canât wait to share this skill and the joy of swimming with these children,â says Nicki Taylor Riley, owner of Super Star Swim School.
For the past nine years, Cool (kidsâ) Cabs has been the mobile caregiver for children with over 8,000 pickups per month.
âCool (kidsâ) Cabs has always bordered on obsessive when it comes to child safety. Whilst our passion is generally focussed on child safety on the roads, we appreciate the immense danger that water poses to children and thus think it imperative that they are taught to be water safe. âSafe on the roads, safe in the waterâ â this is what we want to see. Weâre delighted to have the privilege of transporting these precious children each week and are so pleased to be part of equipping them with a vital life skill,â says Tiffini Wissing Hein, owner of Cool (kidsâ) Cabs.
Non-profit organisation Magical Moments gives underprivileged children the opportunity to experience a different world and their home, Injabulo, was thus a natural choice as a base for these lessons.
This initiative is solely funded by these three local businesses as they have taken the pledge to help educate children in the knowledge of water safety and the joy that learning to swim can bring.
âThis is a community driven initiative, that aims to make a lasting impact on these children by teaching them to swim. We would like to encourage other swimming schools and businesses to take up the pledge to help build a stronger community and provide these opportunities for our children,â concludes Riley.
