Over the past few weeks, some cities in Zimbabwe have been highly affected by the heavy rains, leaving many shelter-less after their homes were vandalised by the severe floods.
Responding to the issue, a group of well-wishers have committed to ensuring that all those affected by the recent flooding in various parts of the country are safe from contracting Covid-19.
While receiving personal protective equipment donated by the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ), the Local Government and Public Works Minister, Honourable July Moyo said:
“The recent spates of floods have presented a double challenge for people in many areas across the country, we will ensure that in the process of assisting them, resources are we prioritised so that they are not exposed to the looming virus,” he said.
“As Government, we would like to thank the move by BAZ to assist as we continue in the fight against the disease. At this stage we require collaborative efforts to ensure that we win this war,” concluded the Minister.
The consignments donated consisted of over 100 000 face masks and at least 500 COVID-19 testing kits. Since January 23, heavy rains have caused flooding, mudslides, destruction of infrastructure leaving about 15 people dead after being swept by the floodwater.
