ZIMBABWEAN cyclists Nkulumo Dube and Mpendulo Nkala are spearheading a charity cycling event from Johannesburg, South Africa, to Bulawayo to raise funds to assist vulnerable families hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
They will start the approximately 900km cycle on February 12 and are expected to arrive in Bulawayo on February 18.
Event organisers intend to raise at least R50 000 through the fundraising initiative dubbed “God’s word on the move”.
“Everything is set for the cycle and will be done in accordance with Covid-19 protocols. We are cycling to raise funds to assist families that have been hit by Covid-19. We will be donating food parcels and bibles along the way. What will happen is that there’s a team that will leave Johannesburg and give us the torch at Beitbridge.
“Five riders from Bulawayo, myself included, will cycle from Beitbridge to Bulawayo for the final leg, we will leave Beitbridge and sleep in Gwanda before proceeding to Bulawayo. We are grateful to Dr Owen Mabaleka, among other people, who are assisting us to realise our goal of helping the community while popularising cycling,” said Dube.
