Washington based soccer player remembers hometown

Former Bosso player Malvern Ntini, based in the United States of America, has donated groceries to Mpopoma families in Bulawayo.

Ntini grew up in Mpopoma – Bulawayo where he started his career playing for the local youth club Mthala before moving to division one side Phinda Mzala and then Highlanders at the turn of the new millennium.

The donations were made through the former player’s foundation ,The Rainydayz Entertainment Foundation. Ntini opened the foundation in 2017 with his wife Marian and it is aimed at empowering women and the girl child , through creativity and music.

After retiring from soccer, Ntini relocated to Seattle Washington in America and ventured into music and set up a recording label in South Africa. Though far, Ntini still remembered the needs of his people and has made donations that consisted of 5kg sugar, 5kg flour, 1kg beans, 10kg rice and 10kg mealie-meal to 25 families.

The foundation’s representative Mr Mthandazo Ngungu says the donation was a token of appreciation by Ntini to a place he grew up and calls home.

“The food hampers are not much but we hope that it will help in fighting the spread of Covid-19 by people being able to stay put at home. We would like to thank various stakeholders in the USA and the country for making the event a success,” said Mr Ngugu.

Upon receiving the donations, one of the recipients expressed his joy saying the food hamper would go a long way in assisting them as a family. Mr John Kahuchiri said the parcel came at the right time due to financial strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am at a loss of words. I don’t how we can thank them for their assistance,” Kahuchiri said, adding he lives with a family of seven.
