Noting the increase in the COVID-19 infections in Kenya,the Kisii county government has realised the need for the enforcement of strict regulations by opening a new 250 bed capacity isolation centre.
The introduction of the 250 beds raises the number to 310 beds which slightly exceeds the 300 mark target that was set by President Uhuru Kenyatta.The beds were put in the male ward and the other 60 were put in the Kisii Teaching and Referral female Hospital.
Although the administration had established additional isolation wards, patients from Getembe, Mwamogesa, kiogoro, Kenyerere and Misesi also recovering from the pandemic.
The treatment centres have 10 ventilators enabling them to respond to COVID-19 patients.
“It also has a purifier with a capacity to produce oxygen for local hospitals. The remaining oxygen can be accessed by needy neighbouring counties,” said Mr Ongwae the hospital administrator.
Mr Ongwae said he has requested the government to support his administration establish a coronavirus testing centre at the referral hospital.
