FIFA raises funds for COVID-19 research.

Amid the rapid spreading coronavirus, Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has committed itself to raising funds towards the COVID-19 research efforts by hosting a charity match.

The world football governing body has refused to just sit back and watch the COVID-19 fight without joining it. After realising that the football fans have been starving for at least a game, FIFA has gone into discussions to organise a charity match for its fans.

The success of the match will make it the first game played under the banner of the FIFA Foundation. The charity match given to the fans will solemnly be for raising funds for the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

When interviewed, a correspondent from the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) confirmed that the funds raised will be for Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT). This ACT is also described as a “global collaboration to accelerate the development, production and equitable global access to new coronavirus essential health technologies, including diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines.”

FIFA is sure that the plan will go forward although no date has been set yet for the match. Players to be involved have also not been indicated by FIFA. This might be because everyone has been on the pandemic lockdown and players were not training.

German Bundesliga resumed football action a fortnight ago while in other parts of the globe football has been put on hold respecting regulations on the pandemic. The pandemic has also led to the French League 1 being cancelled with relegation and championship being decided permutations.

“French giants, Paris St German were ultimately crowned champions for the current campaign, with June set to see the resumption of the English Premiership if all goes according to plan,” said FIFA.
