Rolex announced the mentors for the 2020/2021 Rolex Arts Initiative at the Baxter Theatre Centre in Cape Town. This yearâs program will be featuring Filmmaker, Spike Lee,Phyllida Lloyd who will be focusing on theatre, Lin-Manuel Miranda who will focus on the open category and Carrie Mae Weems will focus on visual arts.
The world-renowned innovators will each spend the next two years in close collaboration with an outstanding young artist with whom they will exchange ideas and ensure that artistry at the highest level is transmitted across generations and geographic boundaries.
Rolex Arts Initiative is acclaimed as the worldâs most successful mentor and proteĂŹgeĂŹ programme where and African artists in a variety of fields have benefited. Previous success stories include Londiwe Khoza, Cape Town Dancer was mentored in 2018 by Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin. Khoza joined the Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv for the mentoring, and still lives and works in Israel today.
