Overcoming workplace challenges and pushing the boundaries for success formed part of a Women’s Networking Brunch hosted by private higher education institution MANCOSA in Cape Town recently.
An intimate gathering of 50 people gained valuable motivational and inspirational advice from influential female business executives and guest speakers whilst enjoying unlimited access to a coffee bar, therapeutic foot and head massages from an on-site beauty therapist, a self-defence demonstration and photo booth.
Nuhraan Sambo, Associate Director at MANCOSA, said: “The fourth annual women’s networking brunch was a great hit. It gave women the opportunity to unwind, engage, collaborate, socialise and bounce business ideas off one another.
“Tickets were purchased at a cost of R150, the proceeds of which were donated to IHATA Shelter for Abused Women and Children, an initiative close to our heart.”
Since inception, the Shelter has directly helped more than 4 000 women with clothing, counselling, sheltering and protection and continues to provide assistance to victims of domestic abuse.
Based in Heideveld on the Cape Flats, the Shelter mainly serves the local disadvantaged female community which is characterized by poor, uneducated and sometimes illiterate women.
Expressing gratitude for a cheque for R10 000 this week was Nuraan Osman, Managing Director at the IHATA Shelter for Women and Children.
“We are a non-governmental organisation looking after 65 abused women and children. There are 25 women from 18 to 70 years old and 40 children from new-born to 16 years old at the shelter who count on us for support. The generosity of MANCOSA will go a long way in helping these individuals.
“I extend heartfelt gratitude to MANCOSA for the generous donation which will go towards paying for food, groceries, expenses and providing optimal care.”
Osman commended MANCOSA for keeping the Shelter top-of-mind and for taking a strong stand against gender-based violence in South Africa.
Namile Mntambo, Internal Auditor at MANCOSA, said: “The women’s networking session was most inspirational. The audience was privy to many heartening stories of the hardships encountered by women in their journey to success and the accomplishments which followed in their rise to leadership.
“I advise women to always respect who you are, to maintain your success and to continue to better yourself daily as we are not perfect.”
She said there is a high level of commitment at MANCOSA to empower and inspire the women of South Africa.
Ayanda Dlamini, a popular South African DJ, radio and television presenter, voice over artist, actress, motivational speaker and programme director at the event, said: “The MANCOSA women’s networking event was awesome – a group of ladies listening with open hearts, sharing honest stories and inspirational words. It was great to be in a room with women who want to take charge of their lives and ready to wake up and bring their dreams to life.”
