In August 2019, Roy Brown walked 2289km around South Africa as part of a fundraising initiative. Brown is an ambassador for Families South Africa (FAMSA) and Pietermaritzburg Agency for Community Social Action (PACSA). He says, āI have always wanted to do something big like this. Iāve seen people make these big gestures and raise money for charityā.
FAMSA is a non-profit organisation that aids families and communities through issues of violence, trauma, gender-based violence, and poverty.Ā PACSA promotes gender equality, justice, and dignity in communities. Brown said, āI will be wearing t-shirts with the names and numbers of both organisations for people to call and make donationsā.
In order to prepare for the big walk across the country, Brown walked a total of 30km daily. His walk will be to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, and end in Pietermaritzburg. He said, āI chose to give back to these charities because they have really helped me during a tough time in my life. I donāt know where I would be without themā.
