Man walks more than 2000km across South Africa for charity

In August 2019, Roy Brown walked 2289km around South Africa as part of a fundraising initiative. Brown is an ambassador for Families South Africa (FAMSA) and Pietermaritzburg Agency for Community Social Action (PACSA). He says, ā€œI have always wanted to do something big like this. Iā€™ve seen people make these big gestures and raise money for charityā€.

FAMSA is a non-profit organisation that aids families and communities through issues of violence, trauma, gender-based violence, and poverty.Ā  PACSA promotes gender equality, justice, and dignity in communities. Brown said, ā€œI will be wearing t-shirts with the names and numbers of both organisations for people to call and make donationsā€.

In order to prepare for the big walk across the country, Brown walked a total of 30km daily. His walk will be to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, and end in Pietermaritzburg. He said, ā€œI chose to give back to these charities because they have really helped me during a tough time in my life. I donā€™t know where I would be without themā€.

If you wish to donate contact FAMSA: 041Ā 585 9393, or PACSA: 033Ā 342 0052
