There were 796 542 students who sat in to write their final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations in 2018. Some of these students have not enrolled at any tertiary institution as they lack the financial support to do so.
Pearson Institute of Higher Education (PHIE) has realised this and is trying to do their part in helping ease the burden of financial strain by offering 200 scholarships to deserving matriculants to study at a tertiary institution in 2019, with the scholarships are worth more than R10 million.
āIn the current economic climate, a good basic education is simply not enough to secure a well-paying job. Even though a degree does not guarantee a job, it will give applicants a better chance of securing that job over those who just have matric,āDr Nhlanhla Thwala, academic director of the Pearson, says.
According to PIHE this scholarship will fund studies in any of the foundational courses on offer including Higher Certificates and Pre-Degree Foundation programmes, to Grade 12 learners with admission to Bachelorās Degree pass, Diploma pass and Higher Certificate pass.
āOur wide range of scholarship options means that applicants now have the means to be exposed to a higher education that was previously never available to them, the number of bursaries on offer is limited to 200, so those interested need to be motivated and serious about their chances at a brighter future,ā concluded Thwala.
The applications will close on 30th January 2019.
