Sasol Energy invests in mathematics laboratories

In support of South Africa’s 2030 education goals as set out in the National Development Plan, Sasol Energy has partnered with the SA Medical & Education (SAME) Foundation to renovate and equip mathematics laboratories at the Manyano High School in Khayelitsha, Western Cape.

Situated in a community with an unemployment rate of around 73%, the high school delivers high-quality education to nearly 1,300 learners. Even lacking funding and robust infrastructure, the school produces excellent results, with a 90% pass rate in the 2016 grade 12 NCS exams. The laboratories will help the school to maintain and enhance the quality of science and mathematics teaching.

Christopher Kabosha, Senior Manager: Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Sasol Energy: “Sasol is mindful of our responsibility to the communities where we operate. We are investing in better educational outcomes at Manyano High School in line with this commitment. Quality school education with global competitive literacy and numeracy standards is key to helping improve prosperity in disadvantaged communities.”

Trevor Pols, CEO of the SAME Foundation: “Children in rural communities are struggling due to a lack of infrastructure and resources. We are partnering with organisations like Sasol to address this crisis to ensure that, in the coming years, our schools will produce children who have been educated to a level that allows them to reach their full potential.”

The project also includes support and training for teachers about integration of digital boards which provides platforms for teachers to utilize computer technology in their classes.
