Engen gives R100K to PE Community

Engen donated  R100,000 to the Community Chest, during the 12th Mayoral Charity Golf Day that took place earlier this month at the Port Elizabeth Golf Club. The annual event was held by Mark Headbush Foundation, in partnership with Community Chest and Nelson Mandela Metro.

For the past 60 years, the Community Chest  has been  fundraising to help distribute resources to support development initiatives in vulnerable communities within the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan.  The organization works to dignify the individual through the alleviation of poverty and distress and provide volunteer and professional expertise in community development, project management, resource distribution and bringing together people concerned with the welfare of less fortunate people.

“At Engen we are very passionate about education, which is why our Engen Maths and Science Saturday Schools (EMSS) have for over three decades seen thousands of successful graduates benefit from the programme,”

says Engen’s CSI manager Mntu Nduvane.

The Engen Maths and Science Saturday Schools provide supplementary classes in Maths, Science and English in four provinces across South Africa. Scholars from grades 10-12 attend free classes every Saturday at four centres in KwaZulu-Natal, three in the Eastern Cape and one in both the Western Cape and Gauteng.

“Testament to our future skilled leaders is that year-on-year, the results of our graduates have soared with favourable increases in the average pass rate of learners as well as the number of learners who achieve bachelor passes and subject distinctions,”

says Nduvane.

EMSS respond to and recognise the need we have in our country for more engineers and technical experts in the petrochemical industry
