Clover Mama Afrika wins the award for Empowerment of Women in the Community

The Clover Mama Afrika project has received another prestigious award at the 2017 Gender Mainstreaming Award ceremony. They were the overall winners for the Empowerment of Women in the Community, after having won the category stage in 2016. The award criteria recognised organisations that have strategies in place to allow for future programmes, or have implemented sustainable initiatives around poverty alleviation that has enhanced skills and provided income opportunities, while having positively impacted on the lives of women and poor communities.

The Clover Mama Afrika ethos is “Ukwakha Isizwe”, which means “building and nurturing our nation”. The remarkable women of Clover Mama Afrika collectively care for over 14 000 children and 2 500 elderly people, many of which are abused, orphaned, homeless and vulnerable.

“We are so proud to have received this prestigious award, a step up from our category achievement award last year! It truly recognises exactly what we strive to do and this award is attributed to all key role players within our project. I dedicate this award to the unconditional support we receive from our Exco, project partners and of course our own Clover Mamas. Thank you!”

says Prof Elain Vlok, Clover Manager Corporate Services and Founder of Clover Mama Afrika Trust, with pride.

The Clover Mama Afrika project identifies women, who contribute greatly to the advancement of their communities and based on a simple concept – empowering community caregivers with practical skills, which they pass on to others, to earn a sustainable income and better service their communities to improve the lives of people living in poverty.
